The 2024–25 women’s college basketball season has showcased exceptional talent across the nation. Ratings are up. The storylines are real and the players are exciting to watch. Here are some of the standout players making significant impacts:
JuJu Watkins, USC: As a sophomore, Watkins has continued to terrorize defenses with her ball handling and ability to shoot the jumper from the mid and long range. She is also using her teammates better, allowing them to relieve some of the pressure that she faces when teams load their defenses against her.
Paige Bueckers, UConn: Although there was a leaked sex tape of Buekers with teammate Azzi Fudd, Paige’s play for the Huskies has been solid and she’s been able to remain focused. She doesn’t miss in the mid-range. Although injuries may have robbed her of some athleticism, she is heady and tough. In my opinion, Sarah Strong is the anchor of the group but the politics dictate Paige shine.
Hannah Hidalgo, Notre Dame: Hidalgo has been instrumental in Notre Dame’s success. She makes big shots, defends and wins. Her shot making ability is second to none and while playing with an ultra-talent group that includes Olivia Miles, they defer to her as their unquestioned leader.
Lauren Betts, UCLA: Big Betts has been dominating the painted area for the Bruins, contributing significantly to their success this season. Her rim protection and ability to finish at the rim make UCLA my favorite to win the National Championship.
Ta’Niya Latson, Florida State: Latson’s offensive skills have been a highlight of the season. While her team isn’t as good as most on this list, she remains a talent that at some point will help a WNBA team.
