Kelsey Plum Blockbuster Trade

I don’t think anyone saw the trade involving the Los Angeles Sparks, Las Vegas Aces, and Seattle Storm coming. The Sparks get All-Star guard Kelsey Plum from the Aces. The Aces received six-time All-Star Jewell Loyd from the Storm, along with the 13th pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The Storm receive the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 draft and forward Li Yueru from the Sparks and 2026 first-round pick from the Aces.

Kelsey Plum is a high-impact player in the WNBA, and any trade involving her would be significant because of her exceptional talent, leadership, and ability to contribute to a team’s success. Here are a few reasons why such a trade could be important:

  • Kelsey Plum is one of the league’s top scorers and a dynamic guard who can score at all three levels (inside, midrange, and beyond the arc). Her ability to create her own shot and facilitate for others makes her a valuable asset for any team.
  • Plum has proven to be a leader on and off the court. Her high basketball IQ, competitive drive, and experience—especially in high-pressure games like the playoffs—make her a cornerstone player.
  • Beyond her performance, Plum has a strong personality and is a fan favorite, helping to grow her team’s brand and the league’s visibility. Any trade involving her could have commercial implications for the teams involved.
  • A team acquiring Plum would likely be looking for an immediate boost to their roster. She has the ability to turn a playoff contender into a championship favorite, depending on the pieces around her.
  • Trades involving players of Plum’s caliber often reflect strategic shifts by the teams involved. Whether it’s rebuilding, reloading for a title push, or addressing roster balance, such trades can reshape the league’s competitive landscape.
